Ws clip the following from the ‘Sydney Morning Herald,’ of the 24th March : Washington, 25th January.—The President has appointed Captain Nicholas Smith of Kansas, Minister Resident Ip Greece, being the only Minister appointed to that country. Congress Iras conferred the franking privilege on Mrs Lincoln for life. New York, 25th January.—The Post’s Washington correspondent says the leading Pennsylvanians, including seven Members of Congress from that State, had a lengthy interview with the President last evening, when he reiterated his opinion that Congress should admit the Southern States to a representation. Ho thought the passage of the Negro Suffrage Bill in the District of Columbia untimely, but did not intimate his intention to veto it. St. Louis, 24th January.—-Seme days since, Judge Primm issued a writ of habeas corpus for John G. Parks, in the Military Prison, for boatburning, which Captain D Parker, of the regular army, commanding the prison, resisted ; thereupn Judge Trent, of the United States Court, issued another writ returnable this morning, and Captain Parker still refusing, he has issued a writ for the arrest of that officer. The conflict between the military and civil authorities produces great excitement. Chicago, January 25th.—The Tennessee House of Representatives yesterday passed the Ne»ro Testimony Bill—yeas 41, nays 32. ° Toronto, C. W.. January 25th.—Tht Customs Commission have ordered the statute to be enforced forbidding arms to be brought into Canada from the United States. New York, January 2oth.——The last steamer brings news of the death of Fredcrika Bremer.
