WELLINGTON RACES. ' The Animal Wellington Race Meeting came off on Thursday and Friday, 22nd and 23rd March, and seem to have been a great success. It will be seen tjiat two horses from; our own Province contested some of the events (viz,, Eahgitoto and Rowdy ) ; they do, not, however, appear to have been “ all there.” Below we give a condensed report of the proceedings;— Fiest Day. The Jockey Club Plate—Value £SO, added to a sweepstakes of 3 sots, each, p.p., open to all horses foaled in the Coleny that have never . won public money. Policy was the favorite, went off with a strong lead, kept it, and won easily, A Match for £2O was then run between Mr Welch’s Sam Slick and Mr M'Donald’s Baker, which was won by the former after two wellcontested heats. Mr Harrison’s Warrengate, Bst 101 b 1 Mr P. Holes' Bowdy, Bst 101 b 2 Mr Mussen's Bob Boy, lOst 71b 3 Billy, Sat 101 b 4 Mr Collins’ Gilead scratched The Handicap Stakes—Value £25, added to a sweepstake of 2 sovs each, open to all horses; three miles. Post entrance. To be handi- . capped by parties named by the Stewards immediately after the Silver Cup Race. The following horses ran : This was the best race of the meeting, and although Rob carried “ top weight,” and nearly two stone more than his competitors, he proved himself game, and only gave in after a struggle. At some time in the race, it was difficult to say which horse would win, Rowdy and Warrengate alternately leading; but in the run home Warrengate went away and won by a length. A Hack Sweepstakes brought the following horses to the post : Mr Fuller’s Jacko 1 Mr Pratt’s Wellington 2 Mr Bansfleld’s Baker 3 Mr Buckridge’s Tucker ~ - 4 The last race was the Consolation Stakes—Value, £ls, added to a sweepstakes of 2 sovs each, open to all horses not winners during these races. Post entrance. Mile heats. Weights—3 yrs old, 7st 71bs; 5 yrs, Bst 71bs ; 5 yrs, 9at ; 6 yra and aged, 9st 7lbs. Rangitoto, Squirrel, and Rowdy started for this race; the former won both heats, being hard pressed by Squirrel. This event ended the Hutt Races for 1866, which have passed over in the most satisfactory manner.
