AUCKLAND. LIVE STOCK MARKET. Mr BtrcKXANo’s report for the week ending December 1. Hay was in short supply on Saturday last, and prices ruled higher about 20s the ton. A larger than usual muster of horses were nearly all sold, but with no improvement in prices. Store cattle offered in very limited numbers ; yet there is but little inquiry for stock of this description. Dairy cows are in request, and good animals command high rates. Fat cuttle are offered in numbers fully equal to requirements, and previous rates are barely maintained. Calves are in fair supply, with a free demand; they maintain their late prices. Store sheep sell freely, at Oahuhu, merino wethers, in their wool, brought 21s each ; shorn ewes and lambs, from 34s to 48s the couple. At Newmarket, merino wethers recently landed brought 20s 6d each. Eat sheep pens were full, but met with a good inquiry, and at the end of the sale obtained better prices than at the commencement. Lambs maintained a high relative price, best quality bringing from 24s to 275; inferior lambs from 455. Scarcely any pigs in the market; for those brougnt forward, extreme prices were obtained. Messes Hunter and Co.’s report for the week ending December 1. Web ave to report that provincial-fattened cattle were a shade higher in price on Monday last than for the previous two weeks. The number brought in were short of the requirements. Dairy cows were in fair supply, and brought satisfactory prices. Store cattle cf a good description sell readily at fair prices. There is considerable demand for this class of stock. Veal calves were in good supply, and sold at good prices. Sheep market.—We had a large market of store sheep. A lot from Napier, with the wool on, but in low condition, brought 21s a head. The Sydney store sheep, ix Kate shorn, brought 17s Od. Fat sheep, shorn, good qualities, brought from 30s to 35s each; medium qualities, shorn, were 22s to 25s each. Horse Market. —We had a large-show of horses on Saturday, both of heavy draught, and* saddle horses, but prices had declined considerably from the previous week’s rates. Sales were difficult to effect. Some of the draught stock were of a better description.than wha\ bus been,shown for some time.
Otahulin Sale.—We had a good market of store cattle and dairy cows, which, were all sold. Prices ranged about the same as at Newmarket, aud the demand good. The following prices have ruled: —Fat cattle, 45s to 50s per ItiOib; dairy cows, £l2 to £ls; store stock, yearlings, £3 to £4. Sheep ; Stores, 20s to 22s ; fat sheep, 30s to 35s shorn ; half-fat, shorn, 22s to 255. Horses : Good hacks, £l2 to £SO medium draught, £2O to £3O.
