AEEITAE OE THE P.S. STUET. The Colonial Government p.s. Sturt, Capt. Fairchild, left Napier at five o’clock on the evening of Monday, the 20th inst; arrived at Poverty Bav at 5T5 a.m. on the 21st, and at 7 a.m. entered the Turangarmi river. Left again for Napier at 6'SO p.m. tlie same day ; but owing to a strong south-west gale, was obliged to go into “Happy Jack’s,” where she dropped anchor at 11 p.m. At 3-i'O a.m. on the 22nd., again put off for this port, but finding the gale still to fierce, returned to “Happy Jack’s,” anchoring at 7’30 a.m. Next day, (23rd,) there was a complete change of wind and weather; so, at B‘4o a.m., she once more tripped her anchors, and steamed for —not Napi -i - , as before, —but Poverty Bay,—Capt. Fairc.did thinking it advisable that, (as he had been knocking about so long,} he should proceed to the scene of hostilities, in order to procure the latest news, to bring on to Napier, Arrived at Poverty Bay at I‘3o p.m. on the 23rd, and, having sent a boat on shore for the mail, &c., left again at 5-20 —arriving in the “ Iron Pot,” at 5T5 a.m. on Friday, the 24th instant. aeeival op the success. The favorite schooner Success, Capt. Frost, left Auckland for Napier via Waugapoa on the 13th inst.; arrived at VVangapoa on the 14th took in 40,000 feet timber, and left for Napier on the ISth ; ou the 19th, was off the East Cape ; on the 20lh passed Portland Island; same day, while off the Old Man’s Bluff, encountered a terrific squall from the south-west-, which nearly capsized the ve.-sel; and in consequence of which had to run for Poverty Bay, where she put in on the 21st; 1 ut for Napier on the 23rd ; and arrived in the j,ron Pot early on the morning ofFriday the24th.
ARRIVAL OF THE EOSE ANN. Tee schooner Eose Ann, Captain Jones, left \V angapoa on the 16th ; on the 19th, saw the schooners Celt, Saucy Lass, and Eose all at anchor in Eicks’ Bay, irom Canterbury, bound for Auckland ; on the 2uth was off the East Cape ; same day spoke the schooner Zillah off Gable End Foreland, steering for Xologa Bay ; rounded Portland island on the 21st; same day, off Old Man’s Bluff, caught a south west “ sneezer,” and run for Wangawehi for shelter, where she arrived at 7 the same evening ; on ihe 23rd at 10 a.nn, left for Napier, and arrived in the Iron Pot on Friday, 2.th insl., at 6 a.m. ARRIVAL OF THE S.S. LORD ASHLEY. The P., N.Z., and A.E.M. Co.’s s.s. Lord Ashley, Captain W os-sp, left Eunedin at 2 p.m. on tlie 21si, and arrived at Lyttelton an 630 a.m. on the 22nd; mil Lyttelton at 2 p.m, the same day. Encountered veiy heavy bead wind during the passage from Lyueilon to Wellington, where she arrived at IO -jE a.m. on the n3ia ; i* it Wellington at 4-3 L p in. on the 24th; and during the mgi.t cspeiii ntid very heavy gale from W .d.W. blowing so fierce at times that she was unable to carry any canvas. arrival op the s.s. eanhatiha. The N.Z.S.N. Co.’s s.s. Eangatira, Capt. Seymour, left Napier for Auckland on the 17th inst ; and called at Tauranga on the 19th, Left Tauranga the same day at noon, and arrived at Auckland at 5 - 30 a.m. on the 20th. Left Auckland for this port at 2’30 p.m. on the 23rd j at 5 a.m. on the 24th arrived at Tauranga; left again at 8 a.m., and dropped anchor in the roadstead at 6 - 30 on the evening of Saturday, the 25th. MISCELLANEOUS. The Lord Aahley and Eangatira both took their departure yesterday—the former for Auckland and the latter for the South. The cutter Betsy had cleared for this port from Auckland via Wangapoa on the 22nd inst. The schooner Tawera had sailed from Auckland for this port via Turanga, The cutter Iris arrived at Wellington on the 13th inst; and had been laid on for Pelorus Sound. The clipper ship Siam had arrived at Auckland on the 17th inst.
