COMMERCIAL.
Driver, Maclean & Co.’s Monthly Live Stock, Stations, Wool Report. November 18,1865. As usual, at this season of the year, we have but few transactions to report; caused mainly by the difficulty of fixing a price agreeable to both buyer and seller for delivery after shearing, which is now close at hand. We, however, have numerous enquiries for store sheep of all descriptions, particularly for Lambs and good Breeding Ewes, and we anticipate a good demand at fair rates. Store Cattle are daily coming into better request, and good mobs are only obtainable at a considerable advance upon former prices. Eat Stock.—The market has been but moderatelp supplied with either Cattle or Sheep, and prices obtained show a decided advance upon our last moth's quotations; Cattle, more especially, are becoming scarce throughout the Province, and we see no reason to anticipate a reduction in the price of good quality berf for some time to come. As Shorn Wethers can now be bad, we may expect a more regular supply, with rather easier prices. Eat lambs are saleable in small numbers; and Calves and Pigs are scarce. We sold during the month at following prices, viz.:—
Fat Cattle, at £l4 5s to £24, equal to about 30s per lOOlbs.
Pat Sheep (in the Wool), at 20s to 27s equal to about ojd per lb; do. (Shorn), at 15s to 17s equal to axout 4£d per lb. Pat Lambs, at 15s each. Wethers (stores, in Wool), at 15s to 17s. Ewes (stores, in Wool), 20s to 265, according to ages.
Hoggets (mixed sexes), at 27a to 28s per pair. Cattle (stores) —Bullocks over two years old, at £9 to £1010s; mixed ages and sexes, £6 to £7 10s.
Station Properties.—Negotiations are pending for one or two Properties, but we cannot report any as having changed hands during the month in this Province. This class of investment is more looked after than was the ease a few months ago. Desitable Properties would meet with ready sale, at fair value.
Wool.—As only one or two small parcels of this season’s clip, have yet come to hand, no transactions have taken place in this market. The third series of London Wool Sales for the year, commenced on 17th August when 140,00 bales were oiiered. The attendance of buyers was goyd, and bidding active. Prices Generally were quoted as without any marked deviation from those at the close of the May and June series. Clean long-stapled flocks were taken readily, although short aue wasty kinds were in less demand.
W e hereto subjoin a catalogue of prices of Otago Wools, sold in London up to 27tb August:— Sheeyskins.—Full Wyolled are in good demand at 4s fid to 5s each. Medium, 4£d to s£d per lbAt our sales during the month, we have quitted several parcels at these rates: Hides.—Heavy, 80 to 1001 bs., are readily taken at 2£d to 2fd. Medium, Ifd to 2£d. Light, 7s to 8s fid. At these prices we have disposed of several hundreds.
Tallow is very scarce, the supply not being anything like adequate to meet the demand by our local manufacturers. We quote prices £33 to £35 per ton.
