MARITIME NOTES. The favorite steamer Beautiful Star, Captain Morwick, left Napier for Auckland, with 1,000 sheep, on Tuesday, September 12. Had moderate weather with northerly winds to East Caps : from thence to Auckland experienced strong NW. winds with heavy head sea. Arrived about g'p.m. on Friday, September 15; having been three days on the passage. She landed the sheep on Queenstreet wharf, in splendid condition, and without a single loss, which speaks volumes for the sea-going capabilities of this lino steamer. After coaling, took her departure for Napier, in ballast, at 8 p.m. on Saturday, the IGtli. Had strong nor-west winds to East Cape ; from thence to port bad souwest winds and fine weather. Arrived at 3 a.m. on the morning of Tuesday last. We believe that she leaves for Auckland this evening, with another cargo of sheep ; and we trust that she will be as successful as on her last trip.
The s.s. Airedale, from Auckland, is due here this day.
The schooner Success, Captain Frost, hence the 9th September, arrived at Auckland on the loth. She is again on the berth for this port —being advertised to leave on the 20th.
The schooner Eose Ann, Captain Jones, was also on the berth for Napier at Auckland; and was to have left on the 16th.
The brigantine Sea Serpent, after a stay of nearly three weeks, the greater part of which time she was wind-bound, took her departure for Wellington on Tuesday morning last. A steamer from the N.E. was signalled on Tuesday morning last, but not having come up the Bay, we presume she was one of the expeditionary force to Opotiki on her way to Wellington—probably the Ahuriri. The Government s.s. St. Hilda, Captain Deck, took her departure for Waiupu, via Poverty Bay, on Monday evening last, the 18th. The s.s. Barwon, winch was to have left Melbourne on the 2nd instant, for Nelson, Hokitika, Wellington, Napier, and Auckland, may now be considered due.
