EAST COAST.

FANATICS REINFORCED. CAPTURE OF A PA. LARGE NUMBER OF HORSES SHOT BY THE ARAWAS. EXPECTED FIGHT. CProm the Correspondent of the New Zealander.] [The following information has reached us br priva*e hand. The letter of our correspondent posted the day previous to that on which this communication was written has not yet- come to hand.] Camp Te Papa, 31st August, 1865. I white you a few additional lines to the letter which I posted yesterday. The Hazard having just returned from Maketu brings a farther corroboration to the fact that the fanatics are receiving hourly reinforcements from the south, Taupo and Waikato. One of the enemy’s pas had been taken by the Arawas, the natives guarding it at the time, thinking it better policy to flee than come in contact with the Enfield rifles with which our brave Arawas are all well provided. A large amount of clothing belonging to the fanatics was obtained, and their horses which were running at large, were shot, no opportunity being ferried across to the loyal side of the river before the fanatics in the large pas could learn of what had occurred. A portion of those natives who had returned, disgusted with our authorities in not affording them a more constant supply of food, have now consented to return to the Matata, assurances having been given them that in future they shall receive a more regular supply of provisions. The Hazard is now loading to start again this afternoon, having been chartered by Mr Commissioner H. T. Clarke, R.M., to convey stores for the Arawas. It is not known where Zereopa’s forces are concentrated, but they are thought to bo somewhere m tu6 Ticiraty of the Matata. Tatars can easily b« seen taking active part at Te MatapihL ni Hurs»pnnoipal pa. .. r “

An engagement is expected to take place either to-day or to-morrow. lam very much afraid that it will be a savage and desperate struggle, awful to relate ; let us hope and pray that success may attend our brave allies.
