WRECK OF THE ALEXANDRA.

The Nelson Colonist, of the 11th inst., has the following with regard to this event:— While the s.s. Auckland still lay at Taranaki, and just before her leaving for this port, intelligence was received of the total loss of the s.s. Alexandra, Government transport, on some rocks off the White Cliff's. The particulars which have reached us are but scanty. She is said to have been in the hands of the pilot at the time of the disaster, and in consequence of her having hugged the land too closely, she struck on a sunken rock and to be quickly abandoned. Her passengers were saved, but the casualty appears to have been too sudden and complete to have allowed of even their baggage being saved.
