IMPORTANT FROM TARANAKI.
<3APT. CLOSE, op tee 43bd L.L. AND TWO MEN SHOT BY REBELS. [Prom the TaeastUa Herald] Wb stop the press to announce the faiufal intelligence, received late last night by aa orderly from Warae, that Captain Close, of the 43rd L.L, has been killed by the rebels near Warea. We have to particulars, but bear also that Henri, a friendly native, and two soldiers are wounded. Captain Close was stationed at Warea Redoubt. [Prom the Southern Cross.] Wb have obtained the following particulars:— Captain Close, with 100 of his naen, was out recon noitring near the Warea, about 20 to 30 miles south of Taranaki, and was accompanied by native guides. The latter saw footmarks of natives, and advised Captain Close to be cautious. He extended his men, and shortly after a volley was fired upon them, and the captain and two of his men were killed. Captain Close’s body was recovered.
