WANGANUI.
Manawattt Block.—We learn that sllthe chiefs of the tribes in connection with thin block hare sigoed an agreement to sell it. The negotiation has been conducted by Mr Bullcr, District ilagistrate here. We have learned some particulars regarding it, which are interesting, but for which we hare not room in this issue.—Chronicle, June 28.
Appeal tj.vto Cjsab.—Tt will be observed from our shipping intelligence that Colonel Logan, Government agent, Captain Boss, W.M., and six native assessors, have gone down to Wellington. It is understood that their object is to represent to the authorities the late proceedings regarding the Wereroa pa; each party in his own way.—
The Wereroa Pa.—Brigadier-General Waddy, C. 8., went out on Monday to the pa, and ofiered terms to the occupants, which were briefly these —that they should evacuate the pa and proceed to Nukumaru and Teupuku (Abraham’s ford) to reside there under the eye of the troops uhtil their case shall be decided on by the authorities. These terms the rebels declined, proposing others which were not agreeable to General Waddy; and there the matter rests By a letter received to-day from our Nukumaru correspondent, we learn that the garrison has been reinforced by 250 fighfii g men. The result of the reference to Wellington regarding the previous act in this game of cross purposes is that Lt.-Colonel Logan resigned his office of General Government agent, which he evidently could not hold while the military and colonial authorities were playing at this game, and that His Excellency the Governor resolved himself to pro-, ceed to the scene of action.—Chronicle, July 5.
