The Indian markets are Very much depressed owing to the fall in cotton. The exporters must suffer a very heavy loss considering that 380 rs was about the. ruling price here in July, August, and September last, and that the price now realised would hardly give five pence per pound, or about 100 rs. per candy. There are rumors of serious losses* and the prospect of what is to follow looks very discouraging. Local native dealers will also suffer severely, arid, in the absence of demand for their stocks by others, they are shipping freely on their; own account. A tax of 2 per cent, is to be placed on sugar. The barque Margaret Davis, from Calcutta to Melbourne, with grain, has been lost off Middle Point. The captain, three seamen, and four firstt class passengers are missing. A plan is on foot at Bomoay for a new electrie cable from that port to Eden, Why is a first-floor like a falsehood it is a story. --
