LOCAL AND GENERAL.

The Queen. —This vessel arrived on Friday morning as we were going t o press, which we in consequence delayed in order to give an outline of the news by her. She left Auckland on the 23rd at 5 p.m., and was delayed by a call at Tauranga and at White Island ; on the 25th she discovered a sunken rock, hitherto unknown, situated iu the channel between East Cape and East Cape Island, a short distance S.E. of that lately discovered by the Beautiful Star. We learn by her that the Napier mail had safely arrived at Sydney, and of the loss we have sustained by the death of our greatly esteemed fellow townsman, Mr W. Miller. She brought in the news of the arrival in Auckland of the Rangitoto, with the European mail and English news t <s the 6th of April.? The Prince Alfred,— This vessel arrived in the Bay on Friday, about 2 p.m., having left Wellington on the 23rd, atBTS a.m. She reports the arrival of the Hero at the Bluff on Saturday, the 20th, with the English mail. The English Mail. —We believe that this is the fifth time in succession that we have oeen disappointed by the non-arrival of the English mail when due. On this occasion, however, we have all the news in advance, both via Auckland and Nelson, by the steamers North and South on Friday last. The Northern portion of the mail arrived per Rangitoto in Auckland on the 22nd at noon, and the Nelson portion at 7 p.m. on the same day by the s.s. Tararua. The Prince Alfred reports that the English mail had arrived by the Hero at the Bluff OE Saturday, 26th. The news was transmitted by the telegraph laid down between the Bluff and Dunedin, and Dunedin and Christchurch, and this was the first time it bad been used. Reform of the Representation. —We have received from the Press Office a pamphlet on the above subject, which will engage our early attention.
