The Provincial Council.— By reference to our advertising columns it will be seen that the writs are issued f>r the election of two members of the Provincial Council, in. the room of Messrs. J. A. Smith and M. Fitzgerald, who have resigned. their seats, and that the is the day named for noimnrition. 'W European News.— -There is a rumor current that a telegram has been received in Sydney con veyiug the following items of European and American news, but it seems tons to rest on a very slender foundation. We merely give it for what> it is worth. It is stated to rest upon the verbal statement of the captain of a coal brig, who it seems lial had given to him a copy of a Sydney paper containing the account, but not being aware of its value allowed it to ha destroyed: —That peace had been made in America between the North and South, and it was intended to make war upon England. The death of ftirdmul" Wiseman, and the death of the Emperor Louis Napoleon.
