NOTIFICATION. By Donald M‘Lean, Esq., Superintendent of the Province of Hawke’s Bay, in the Islands of New Zealand. WHEREAS by an instrument under the hand of His Excellency Sir George Grey, the Governor of New Zealand, dated the 26th day of June, 1863, after reciting that it was proyided by the “ Militia Act Amendment Act, 1862,” that it should he lawful for the Governor or such person as he should appoint as his Deputy for that purpose, from time to time to call out the whole or any part or number of any Regiment, Battalion, Corps or Company as he should think fit, and reciting that it was expedient that a person should be appointed for the Militia District of Napier to exercise the above recited power, the said Governor did appoint me, the undersigned, Donald M’Lean, Esq., to be his Deputy within the said District of Napier, from time to time to call out the Militia thereof for training and exercise, subject nevertheless to the conditions and restrictions of the laws in force for the regulation of the Militia: And whereas it is expedient to call out for training and exercise all the men of the first and second classes of the Militia of the said Napier District and all the men of the Volunteers of the same District, — Now, therefore, I, the said Donald M'Lean, Esq-, Deputy of the said Governor, as aforesaid, in pursuance and execution of the power given to me by the instrument before recited, do hereby call out for training and exercise All the men of the first and second classes of the Militia of the said Napier District, and all the men of the Volunteers of the same District. And I hereby authorise and request Charles Lambert, Major, the Officer commanding the said District, to carry into efiect this direction. The training of the Militia and Volunteers will take place two days in each month—two hours each day—at such places and hours as may be appointed by the Officer Commanding. .C. LAMBERT, Major Commanding Napier Militia District. Office of Militia and Volunteers, Napier, April 18th, 1865. DISTRICT ORDERS. No. 1. The Major Commanding requests that Captains will with the assistance of the officers of their respective Companies enrol every man liable to serve in the Militia in their several districts, and that they will summon before a Magistrate with the view to a fine being inflicted, as provided for in . Sect ion No. 7 of the Militia Act, 1862, all men who fail to enrol or to attend the training. No, 2. The Major Commanding calls upon all the Officers of Militia and Volunteers to exert themselves to prevent men evading the Militia Laws by absenting themselves from drill, and which evasion cannot but create dissatisfaction in the minds of those who regularly attend. No. 3, As these first parades are for the purpose of enrolling and organisation, the whole of each Company or Troop will parade at the places named, with the exception of Nos. 4 and 5 Companies, which will parade in detachments as directed, after which Captains will select such places for ] drilling their companies as they may deem most convenient for the men—reporting to Head-quarters the places they have selected, and forwarding Muster Rolls of their Companies t* the Adjutant of Militia and Volunteers, Napier, without delay.
