COMMERCIAL.

CANTERBURY. There was rather more business transacted in the grain market last week, hut there was little or no change in prices. Some good samples of new wheat were brought in, and changed hands at 7s per bnshel. The farmers are still complaining of the havoc caused by the blight. Flour, for the best samples, realized £26 per ton, wholesale. Some parcels of new barley and oats were offered: the prices ruled respectively, 5s and 2s 6d per bushel, wholesale. There was no alteration in the value of hay or straw from last week's quotations. Potatoes are abundant, and fetched from 4s to 5s per 100 Ihs; the quality was very good. The fish and vegetable markets have been very fairly supplied. A considerable quantity of apples, of this year's growth, have been offered.. We have no alteration to mention in the price of building materials or of fuel, _ Mr. E. Mitchell reports that the market oh Friday consisted of 110 head cattle, 4 horses, and 100 lambs. The following are the prices obtained:—Heifers and steers, from one or two years old. £6 5s per head; bullocks, from three years and upwards, £3 to £ll per head—one lot, about half fat, £l2 to £l3 per head; one yard of fat bullocks, £ls per head; 3 cows, £lO, £U, and £l3 each ; fat Jambs, 17s and 18s each.
