AUCKLAND.
(From tbe New Zealand Advertiser , Jan. 24.) By the s.s. Wanganui, which arrived in harbor this morning from the Manukau via Wanganui, we have later news from Auckland. The Wanganui brought 45 men and horses of the Military Transport Corps to Wanganui. A fire occurred in Auckland on the 18th, which burned down Messrs. J. S. McFarlane & Co.’s large store in Queen-street. They are insured for £IO,OOO. The Waikato news is peaceful. There was no decision come to at Rangitoto, and the meeting adjourned to Haugatikei. Rewi alone stands out, and if he is to fight will likely come to Taranaki. Thompson’s son goes to England to be educated at Sir George Grey’s expense. There is twenty days latter news from America by way of Honolulu. Lincoln has been elected President by a large majority. Sherman has gained further successes near Atlanta, which he has burned. Congress was to meet on the sth Dec.
