During the late Hungarian war, a recruit, who was going through the sword exercise, after having learnt all the cuts, asked how he had to parry the cuts of the enemy. Au old hussar answered : *• Never mind the parrying; only you cut, and let the others parry.” A woman named Martineau has just died at Mirabsau (Vienne), aged 105. At the age of 70 she left off the use of spectacles, her sight having recovered wonderfully. She soon was able to read the smallest text.
