The Steamer Waixabt.— This trim little steamer, the property of Messrs N. Edwards and Co., went outside the harbor on Saturday afternoon, to run the measured mile, and to ascertain the effect of the improvements in her steering apparatus. These last were found excellent, as she turned rapidly, and ans wered the least motion of her wheel. There was blowing from the land a strong breeze, which was a beam wind both going and returning, but which had fore-and at canvas been hoisted, would with steam have carried th < vessel along at a rapid rate. In the adverse circumstmois she did the mile in Timm, going ont, and in Train. o.,cc. on the return, making a fraction over eight miles an hour, with something like 201bs. pressure of steam. The Wallaby was in bad trim for steaming, particularly against a wind, as she had no cargo on board, and she steams best when laden, which she can he to upwards of eighty tons. Considerable Improvement in cabin accommodation has been made in the Wallaby. The stern cabin has become the second cabin, which is roomy and well Hghted, and on deck, amidships, a house has been built, and now forms the main cabin. Underneath this is the ladies’ cabin, which is being tastefully fitted up, and will, like all the rest of the accommodation, be luxurious and comfortable. The Wallaby will have about forty-five passenger berths fore Mid aft. She leaves fcr the Buller, the Grey, and the Okitlki, this day,— XfeUon Colonist, Dec. 20. “ We notice by Auckland' papers that the six seamen who were remanded to Bussell some short time ago on the charge of scuttling the steamer Aphraria, on ner passage to Sydney, have been brought before the Resident Magistrate there, and honourably acqu t ed.
