WM. THOMPSON’S TERMS OF PEACE.

A correspondent at Cambridge, who has a thorough knowledge of the Maori language, as. also of native affairs generally, says : —“ With some some trouble and not a little risk I have procured a sight of terms that Thompson would makepeace upon at the time the Tauranga natives name|in, and I am told that no other terms are to bo given us by the Thompson party. No mention is made of the murders last year near Auckland, and these terms do not extend to Taranaki:—

“ Conditions on which peace would be made by the Waikato tribes, now in arms against the Government of New Zealand.

1. On condition that the natives that have been taken prisoners, or given themselves up to the mercy of the Governor, be allowed to take up a part of the Waikato, the King’s party will give up all claims to the Waikato, and agree not to molest Europeans or natives that may be settled on the Waikato.

2. All hapus that have joined the King to bo secured in the possession of whatever land they may have left after giving up the Waikato. 3. Any hapus or tribe that wishes to join the Queen’s party, to be allowed to do so without hindrance from the King’s party. 4. All hapus or tribes that have not joined either side to bo allowed six months to do so.

5. No one holding authority from the Queen to hold a court on the King’s party. 6. The King’s natives to be allowed to judge and punish all men living on the King’s laud. 7. That the King's natives bo allowed the same rights as the Queen’s natives in buying and sell-

sng at the stores. 8.“ All King natives wishing'to travel on the Queen’s land, and all Europeans and Queen’s natives wishing to travel on the King’s land, to be allowed to do so on being provided with proper passes.

9. Any one trying to evade the laws by going ovei- to the othei' to be sent back.

10. All shipping to be under the same restriction as individuals.”
