CORRESPONDENCE.

To the Editor of the Hawke's Bay Times.

SiR. —We have had enough of war—for a very sufficient reason, we have got the worst of it. \\ hat between the Greys and Browns and all the other colors of the rainbow, we begin to look rather blue over this business. lam prepared to undertake a mission to King Potatoes, and sue for peace in the name of the Queen, and to accept any terms he likes to offer. I’m thoroughly knocked up with only thinking about it. What little of the soldier there ever was in me is completely knocked out of me now, partly by dint of hearing so much about fighting, and I suppose partly also from seeing so little of it ; but be that as it may, the first Maori who comes to ray house shall have ray Militia rifle, for it is pretty clear, comparing the score made at the rifle butts the other day by the Militia, amongst whom I took upon that occasion a distinguished position, having scored as much as 1, that those interesting people the Maories are better able to use those destructive weapons than we are. I enclose my name and address, so that should my offer be accepted by the Governor, I am prepared to start at once to talk the matter over with his Majesty, Yours, A MILITIAMAN. P.S.—I may as well state here that I shall expect to be paid by the day , and not by the job.
