WM. ELLISON, Convener. HAWKE’S BAY STEAM NAVIGATION COMPANY. npHE ordinary General Meeting of the Shareholders of the Hawke’s Bay Steam Navigation Company was held within the Government Buildings, Napier, on Saturday, the 23rd July, 1864, at 12 o’clock noon, and was numerously attended. H. S. Tiffen, Esq., occupied the chair. The chairman having read the notice published in the Provincial papers, convening the meeting, called on the Secretary to lay the report of the Directors before the Shareholders. The following report was then read; — REPORT OF DIRECTORS For the Tear ending 15 th July, 1564. The Directors have the satisfaction of reporting to the Shareholders that the object for which they specially took office has been accomplished, and that a steamer built on the Clyde, in conformity to your recommendation, is now on its way out. The screw steamer Ahuriri was launched from the yard of J. G. Laurie the 16th February, made a successful trial trip on 15th April, and sailed on the 21st April for this port, calling, on the 22nd, at Holyhead. From the well-known standing of her builder, and the favorable accounts we have received from home, we have no doubt the Ahuriri. will prove herself to be an excellent boat, and answer the expectations which have been formed of her. The agents advise that her builder could easily have obtained a larger price than her cost to us. In terms of the contract with the builder, the Ahuriri was to be completed and delivered over on the 25th December, but from unforeseen causes, the strike, in the first place of the boiler makers, and subsequently of the joiners, throughout the United Kingdom, the delay which took place could not be avoided.
