CORRESPONDENCE.

To the Editor of the Maioke's Bay Times.

Sir, —By private sources I have just received yesterday’s supplement, containing J. Smith’s account of the behaviour of two of our Magistrates, G. S. Gooper, and H. R. Bussell, and my opinion is, they have this time nicely put their foot in it. If something is not immediately done to purge this Court from such degradation, we shall find people openly defying it, and it can’t be wondered at. I have been long surprised how such

abuses could exist with no interference, or ■why the Bench submits to all they do. This letter will make some .awake* and we cannot be too thankful for it. It is high time, Mr. Editor, we possessed something more than a semblance of justice. There are two or three other cases which have been brewing here and need but a start to set them going too. Let the powers that be look out. In haste, Mr. Editor, I am, &c., Lynx. Waipawa, Wednesday, April 27, 1864. P.S.—I consider the Sheriff insulted not only his opponent and the Bench, but defies public opinion. L.
