THE RANGITIKEI MURDER.

APPREHENSION AND EXAMINATION OP TEIGKEE. At length there appears to be some prospect that the mystery of this foul deed will be solved. Some months ago, when the inquest on the deceased Robert Eayuer closed though no sufficient evidence had been adduced to warrant the committal of any one, yet strong suspicions existed against a man named Tricker, who had been heard to utter threats relative to the deceased. The reason of these threats apparently was that the deceased (Eayner) had at one time given evidence in Court in a cattle-stealing case which led to Tricker's conviction and imprisonment for two years. Some people, however, were inclined to suspect a native and half-caste, residing with the deceased at the time, as having been participators in the crime. However, nothing definite transpired at the various lengthened examinations and so the matter dropped. It is only now, after so great a lapse of time, that, through the confession of a half-caste lad, Tricker has been arrested. —lndependent April 12.
