LOCAL INTELLIGENCE.
The Queen s English Improved, as per the Herald of Wednesday last:—“ The last new thing in opposition as a “ cry”’ based upon certain defects in the land regulations, or in their administration.” Our devil says he intends cutting out this chaste sentence for his album, should he obtain the kind permission of the editor of the Herald. A New Zealand Gazette , dated 3rd March contains a Proclamation by his Exceliencv the Governor, abolishing Hawke’s Bay as a District under the District Courts Act, 1858 —to take effect from the 28th inst. In the same Gazette there is also a proclamation notifying the extension of the jurisdiction of the Resident Magistrate’s Courts at Napier, Lower Hutt, and Blenhiem, "to all cases of debt or damages not exceeding fifty pounds. Such extension to take effect from the 28th inst.
Country Disxiot Election.— The polling in the above district took place at the various polling places on Monday last, and the state of the poll was declared on Wednesday, at Greenmeadows. The following is the result :
A Government Gazette of the 24th ult. contains a notification that his Excellency has been pleased to signify bis assent to the “ Amendment of Loan Act, 1863.”
