The Panama Mail Service.— An agreement for a contract, for five years, for a monthly mail line of steamers between Panama and New Zealand, has just been completed between the hon. Crosbie Ward, on behalf of the colony, and the directors of the Intercolonial Royal Mail Steam Packet Company, which, for some time past, has had a line of steamers between Australia and New Zealand. The time to be occupied between Panama and New Zealand is 30 days, under penalty for excess and bonus for shorter periods, and the subsidy is to ho £76,000 per annum for the entire route, comprising Panama, New Zealand, and Sydney, guaranteed b) the Colony of New Zealand alone. The service is to commence about the Ist of January, 1865 ; and it will complete the circle of British Mail Steam Services round the globe. —Shipping and Commercial Gazette. Troops for New Zealand.—Reinforcements have been ordered for New Zealand. The first battalion of the 10th and 17th, and the 2nd battalion of the 12th Regiment, are under orders. The 43rd has been ordered from Bengal, the 68th from Rangoon, and the 33rd from Poonah.
