William Wilcox, being sworn, said, —I am chief officer of the barque Lorenzo Sabine, now lying in Nelson harbor. Prisoner shipped as cook and steward on board that vessel. I received information yesterday that the prisoner had been using abusive language to one of the female passengers on board. This was between 2 and 3 o’clock. The second mate and I went and ordered prisoner to 'go on, deck, He refused, and said he would punch my head, and he struck me in the face. I knocked prisoner down outside the cabin door, and he then got up and went to his pantry. I beard knives rattle, and prisoner came out immediately with a carving knife in his hand.
