To the Editor of the Hawke's Bay Times.

Sir, —Will Mr. Bousfield satisfy the electors by stating, in black and white, that he will not take any Government appointment daring the reign of the present Council, for in his address he states merely that he has no intention of accepting any sort of Government appointment; for it is as safe to vote for him that has got the bribe as for another that will only annoy both friends and foes until he gets it, and then he will only guard his own interest by gulling the people and acting the hypocrite in another shape until the people get disheartened and say. “Who will show us any good ?” They are all alike; holding forth fair words until they get in, and then it is only filthy lucre. I hope that this evil will be shown up, and that there is a good time coming all the world over, and that Mr. Bousfield may shine out as one of the bright stars in the political firmament to clear away the evils of the day, and bring in 'an Act that no public servant shall sit in the Council wasting the public time by filling his own and his friends pockets. No half measures will cure this monstrous evil; for it is a mess when every man is judge in his own .case. Oh! could you tell how you were sworn To execute the law justice has left forlorn, That tries to ruin poor B’s and C’s And passes by the lawless J.P’s. That Scully and you, tws honest duels, May not bo both made tools and foola, With a vengeance may Judge J ohnston say, We administer Law laxly in Hawke’s Bay. John Begkj.
