OTAGO.

Increase oe the Otago Press. —Prom an advertisement in the Otago journals we perceive that the Dunedin Leader is about to make its deJmt. The advertisement says : —On or about

the 3rd October will appear the first number of the Dunedin Leader an Illustrated Weekly Newspaper. The Leader will be a full-sized newspaper, and will contain all the news of the week, both town and country, and extra provincial. Each number will also contain a portrait of one of the leading public men of Otago, or other interesting illustration.”— Press, October 3. The Evening Star of the 24th instant has the following paragraph : —“ Wo observe by our advertising columns the newspaper literature of Dunedin is about to be supplemented by the appearance of a weekly journal to be called the Observer. The proprietors have made a happy selection of the name; and, properly conducted, the new aspirant for public patronage should prove a valuable acquisition to the public. The prospectus promises a great deal, but nothing more than we believe the proprietors are competent to fulfill. We shall be happy to record the undertaking.”—lbid. The All England in Otago. —The Evening Star of the 24th instant, says : —“We are glad to hear there is great probability of arrangements being made to bring over the ‘All England Eleven.’ All lovers of the old English and manly game of cricket will rejoice at the prospect of seeing a picked twenty-two of New Zealand compete with the strongest in the world. The undertaking will be a great one, but the gentleman who has it in hand is well able to grapple with the difficulties of so great an undertaking, and there can be no doubt as to the success of the arrangement, provided our ‘ merchant princes,’ bankers, and all desirous of enjoying the sight of a good game of cricket, will unite in promoting the object.' We know of noting that would stir up the now dormant business of Dunedin so well as a visit from the Knights of the Bat and Ball.”— 1 bid.
