MARLBOROUGH.

Flood. —The Marlborough Press of the 29th August says:—“We regret to have again to record the fact of another flood having visited this province during the course of last week. We understand that the water rose higher in the Wairau river hy some thirteen inches than was ever before known. The height to which the flood rose can, in some measure be conceived, when we state that so great was the pressure of water that it was deemed advisable to bore holes through the sides of the ferryhouse, so as to facilitate the passage of the water, as it was feared that if such a course was not adopted, the house stood in danger of being lifted oft’ the piles. A considerable portion of the Opawa dam has, we understand been carried away.”
