Wreck oe the Cutter Thistle. —We are sorry to learn, by a letter of the sth inst., that this fine cutter was lost on the north spit of Kawhia Bar on the evening of Monday (he third, upon which melancholy occasion every soul on board perished. The Thistle was in command of Mr. Bissett, and

Mr. Charlton, an old and much esteemed colonist was a passenger. The bodies of the master and two seamen have been picked up, but that of Mr. Charlton had not been recovered when the mail left. It is gratifying to learn that all the natives at Kawhia turned out to search for the bodies ; it exhibits, at all events, their good disposition towards Mr. Charlton’s family. By a letter of two days later date we learn that Mr. Charlton’s body had been found, and that Mrs. Charlton and family were coming up to Auckland in the Favorite. There is a great deal of anxiety prevalent in Kawhia. And the natives on the Southern side refuse to allow the Europeans to remove any of their property.

Wreck or the Schooner “ Sea Gull.”—We regret to have to announce the total loss of the schooner Sea Gull , an old and favourite trader between Manukau, Taranaki, and Wanganui. The following particulars are taken from the Taranaki Herald, of the 15th instant:—“On Tuesday the schooner Sea Gull , belonging to Mr. S. Oliver of this place, was struck by lightning during a thunder storm that passed through the settlement between 9 and 10 a.m. The electric fluid struck the mainmast, smashing it, and dividing chains and bars of iron, passed down into the hold, filling it with smoke, and causing a leak of such magnitude that to save their lives and property on board she was beached near the Henui river, where she now lies a total wreck. The Sea Gull was at anchor discharging her cargo, and was not insured. - ’
