Edward Towgood, Esq. E. W. Knowles, Esq. Solicitors: —Bobert Hart, Esq., Wellington; anc J. X. Wilson, Esq., Xapier. Provisional Secretary ;—John G. Kinross, Esq. o rpiE object of the proposed Company is to JL. procure two screw siejimers of a capacity and. draught of water suited for the requirements of the I‘ort of Xapier. The great success which has attended the working of steamers in (he coasting trade of Xew Zealand has demonstrated the fact that such a trade can be profitably followed, and it is believed that the Province can now very well maintain two steamers in constant employment. The want of a suitable local steamer has been sevorety lelt lor the past IS months—iloekowners and oiling having been thereby shut out from the high mavkels existing both in Otago and Auckland. The uncertainty of tho voyage precludes shipping by sailing vessels, while the accommodation afforded by the mail steamer, irrespective of the danger and delay of loading in the roadstead, is inadequate. The steamers which (his company proposes to purchase are ol tho dimensions recommended by practical men of experience and standing after a careful inspection of the Port of Napier,"and will each be about 110 tons register, or 250 tons builders’ measurement. Length, about 120 to 125 ft. over all; breadth of beam, 20 ft. ; depth, 9 feet; draught, when loaded, 71 feet. Each steamer to have 2 engines ol 25 nominal horse power ; to have a half-poop deck for passenger*, and cabins filled up for 13 gentlemen and G ladies berths, besides steerage accommodation. Such steamers will provide for the development of the goods and passenger traffic, which is called for by the growing importance of the Port of Xapicr. As the conveyance of live stock may be expected to form a very profitable source of revenue, (he steamers will be built with a view to this, and xvill each carry from 500 to COO wethers. This Company may with confidence calculate on receiving the liberal subsidy for steam purposes voted by the Provincial Council of Hawke’s Bay. It is proposed that this company shall have a capital of £15,000 in 750 shares of £2O each, with power to issue new shares if necessary. The qualification for voting at the election of the first Board of Directors shall be (lie payment of Deposit of 10s., and the first call of £2 per'sharc.
