The following rules relative to pay and allowances to Militia and Volunteers are published in a New Zealand Gazette of the 19th instant. PAY AND ALLOWANCES TO OFFICERS. Pay to officers will be issued at the same rates as allowed in Her Majesty’s service, excepting to those holding appointments under the General Government, who will be only entitled to half the pay of their respective ranks. Pay to commence from the day on which the battalion was called out for training or actual service ; and those officers who have been appointed since that period, provided that they have been available and done duty,, will be entitled to pay from the dates of their respective commissions. No pay will be issued to officers absent from their battalions, either with or without leave, unless under special authority. Allowances. Command and forage allowance will be allowed to all officers that would be entitled to the same in Her Majesty’s army. Officers when not called away from the locality to which their battalion belongs, will be allowed, in addition to their regular pay, 2s. Gd. a day for the days they are on guard, escort, or piquet. Officers when called upon to leave their homes and proceed on detachment, will receive an allowance of 2s. 6d. a day for every day they may be so situated, and a commissariat ration in addition will be issued to them, free of charge. Adjutants to get 3s. Gd. per diem, in addition to captain’s pay. PAY ALLOWANCES TO MEN. Staff Sergeant 6s. per diem. Sergeants 3s. “ Corporals 2s. Gd. “ Drummers 2s. “ Privates 2s. “ Pay to non-commissioned officers will be issued consecutively from the date of their promotions. No pay will be issued to men absent from their respective battalions. Men going into hospital will receive their pay without any allowances. The pay of men confined for a military offence will be stopped for the days they are in confinement; if on detachment they will be provided with a commissariat ration, and when not on detachment an allowance of Is. a day will bo given to them to provide for themselves. Allowances. When men are not called away from the locality to which their battalion belongs, they will receive pay only for the days they attend drills and parades, but if required for guards, escorts, or picquets, an allowance of Is. Gd. a day for the days they perform such duties will be admitted, in addition to their daily pay. When men leave their homes and proceed on detachment, they will receive pay for every day they may be so situated, a ration will be issued to them free of charge, and an allowance of Gd. (sixpence) a day in addition.
