Tuesday, April 7.' All the members present. Mr.,Smith presented a petition from D. Mmm and others, praying that a small sum might be placed on the estimates for the

erection, of a flagstaff on the Town Hall reserve. , As it prayed lor a grant of public money, the petition could not be entertained. Mr. Smith brought up the report of the committee on the financial position of the Province, which was read as follows Your committee beg .to state relative to the question on which they wore ordered to report that, after examination of the report made by the Provincial Auditor to the Provincial Council, they are of opinion any further information on the subject is not required. Mr. Colenso moved, — That the Provincial Engineer be requested to survey and report upon the best available road to connect the settlers located on the bank of the Meanee river (between Puketapu and Taipo) with the main line of road below Taipo on Meanee flats. Mr. Tuke seconded the motion, which was carried. Dr. Hitchiugs, pursuant to notice, moved, JThat the Superintendent be requested to place £SO upon the estimates for the purpose of defraying the expenses incurred by the schoolmaster of Clive in making additions to and otherwise improving the school-house—rendering the building habitable. The motion was seconded by Mr. Dolbel, but afterwards withdrawn by the mover* after some discussion as to its propriety. The Loan Bill was then re-considered in committee, and amendments made. The Council then went into committee of su Pl>b% when the various items in the estimates were nearly ail passed without amendment. We shall publish them shortly as passed by the Council. The Council then adjourned. Wednesday, April 8. All the members present. Mr. Ormond brought up the report of the committee oh the Wellington debt, as printed in our last issue. Mr. Fitzgerald moved, — For leave to ask the Superintendent to place on tho estimates £SO for a weighing machine ; £45 for a town clock ; £l2O for the Hapier Mechanic's Institute. The item for a town clock being struck cut the motion was agreed to. Mr. Dolbel moved, pursuant to notice, That the Superintendent be requested to place on the estimates the sum of £4O for the purpose of opening up a bullock dray road made from the Bush to the month of Arapawanui river,- and also to provide for a buoy and cable for the safety of boats loading and unloading there. Motion carried. Mr. Tuke moved— That the sum of £l7O bo placed on the estimates for making a road from.Aorangi to Ivereru Bush, and also repairing old road. Motion seconded by Mr, Dolbel and carried.
