LOCAL INTELLIGENCE.

Disxer. —His Honor the Superintendent gave a dinner to the members of the Provincial Council and the heads of departments, on "Wednesday evening last, in the Council Chambers. About thirty sat down to a sumptuous dinner, provided by Mr. Gill, of the Masonic Hotel, and wo must say that great credit is due to that gentleman for the style in which it was got up. The Speaker of the Provincial Council was at the bead of the table, the chairman of committees at the foot, and his Honor the Superintendent in the centre, supported on his right by Major Douglass, and on his left by Major Whitmore. After dinner, his Honor proposed the health of “ The Queen ” which was drank with musical honors. “The Prince of Wales and all the Royal Family,” His Excellency the Governor,” “General Cameron,” “The Ministry,” were also proposed by his Honor and heartily drank. Other toasts followed including “The Army and Navy,” “The late Superintendent,” “ His Honor the Superintendent,” “ The Provincial Council,” “ Prosperity to the Province of Hawke’s Bay,” “ The Agricultural and Pastoral Interests,” “Mercantile Interest and Steam,” “The Press,” “Success to the Sister Provinces,” “ The Ladies,” &c. Song and toast followed each other agreeably until about eleven o’clock, when the company broke up, after spending an evening of hilarity and enjoyment.

Accommodation for Travellers. —For the in-! formation of those who have occasion to travel through the district of Tarawera, we may stats that a native named Nikora te Wakaunua has opened an accommodation house for travellers. His charges are 2s. a bed and 2s. a meal.

The. Wonga Wonga arrived this morning, but up to the time of our going to press we were not in receipt of any news.
