Mr. James Bruce says:—“ Lay a line from the mouth of the ‘Severn to Newcastle’ and so quite round the terrestrial globe; and coal is to bo found everywhere near that line, and scarce anywhere else. The same hint, with respect to other parts, may be of service to geologists in determining where gold, silver, iron, and diamond mines are to be found.” Mr. Bruce adds an important piece of advice to gold diggers, viz., to make use of the pocket compass, as the richest veins lie from north to south. *
