Waipukuhau Races. —On the second day, Thursday, there were three horses started for the first event the Hurdle Race, namely, Volunteer, Sunrise, and Toware. At the first hurdle Toware refused and the other two made the running taking their leaps comfortably, until Volunteer, came to the last hurdle, in taking which both horse and man came down in a heap, and fears were entertained for the jock. Sunrise, who was at the fifth leap, appeared now to have the race, but he refused his hurdle, and Cameron, the rider of Volunteer, remounted and was first in, although his saddle • girths were gone. The Scurry Stakes were won by Schamyl, without any great effort, and the Consolation Handicap by Mr. Marshall’s little horse Euclid.
Sudden Death at Te Aute.—A man named ’William Arnott, was found in a very weak state of health at Te Aute on the mornof Thursday last, having been lying out during the night previous. He died soon afterwards, all the efforts to revive him proving fruitless. An inquest was held on the following day, when the jury returned a verdict of “ Died by the. visitation of God.”
