CHAMPION RACE.

Ladybtjrd —Chestnut mare, 4years old, by II Barbiere, dam Moth. She stands 15 hands, good length and substance, a very wiry game-iooking mare. She is the property of Mr. Redwood, trained by that gentleman, and will be ridden in the race by his son Joseph. At the Nelson races of January, 1862, she won the Trial Stakes beating a held of four; same day was beaten by Ultima for the Ladies’ Purse ; next day won the Maiden Plate, beating a good field; same day was beaten by a neck by Ultima and Revoke, they running a dead heat in a threemile race. Same day won the Scurry, heats, beating Shadow and St. Patrick. At the Nelson meeting of December, 1862, was beaten by Otto, in the Turf Club Plate, 2 miles; same day was again beaten by Otto 11 Handicap. Nest day was beaten by Otto in the Tradesman’s, Purse 1| miles; the third day was beaten in the Town Plate, 3

miles, and won the Consolation Stakes and Forced Handicap. At the Canterbury meeting of 1863 was beaten in the Criterion Stakes, I| miles, by Golden Cloud; the next day beaten in the Grand Stand Handicap, 1 mile, by Golden Cloud; the same day beaten in the Ladies’ Purse, 2| miles, by Eevoke. The next day won the Metropolitan Handicap, beating Market Gardener and two others; same day was beaten in the Forced Handicap, 1 mile, by Golden Cloud. This closes her racing career up to the present. She is now in active preparation for the great event, and doing well. Mormon— Frown horse, 7 years old, by the Premier dam Delaware Girl, by Delapro the sire of Alice Hawthorn ; 15 hands 2 inches, a beautiful model of a horse, the very picture of an English racer. He is the property of Mr. Keighran, brought out by his private trainer, Joe Bennett, who has him in magnificent condition, and will be ridden by Win. Simpson, the favorite jockey of South Australia and Victoria. Under the name of Praxiteles he made his first appearance as a three-year-old, but was very unlucky, although his running in the first champion race won by Flying Buck, stamped him as a firstclass horse. His first performance the following year was winning the Maiden Plate at Melbourne, followed the same year by the Artillery Handicap, followed by the Wiliiamstown Handicap. Under the name of Mormon he won the Geelong Great Handicap, and the Town Plate at Melbourne ; went to Sydney, and was beaten the first day by Archer, Gaffer Gray the second, and Talleyrand third; he then came back to his old quarters at Flemington, to undergo his preparation for the Two Thusaud Guineas, under the care of Bob Hamilton, which he won easily, beating a large field after a very fastrun race. In would be tedious to go through the whole of Mormon’s races; he has *at times been very unlucky, often beaten by very inferior animals, but when fit, he takes an immense amount of beating. He has been the winner of some of the largest stakes in the colonies, and we believe the largest receiver of public money. We may mention the Hobart Town Champion and Great Handicap, Melbourne Two Thousand Guineas ; the two big handicaps, Town Plate, at Ballaarat, last year : Town Plates, Chellenge Whips, Handicaps, &c. His total winnings of public money amount to something like To,GOO, He is out at .Silver Stream taking his breathings for the big race, and is first favorite. —Daily Times, Feb. 24.
