MONDAY, MARCH 2. [ Before John Curling, Esq., R.M. ] George Aiken and John M‘Carthy were fined ss. each for drunkenness. Fines paid. TUESDAY, MARCH 3. George Brown and John Gortau were fined ss. each for drunkenness. Fines paid. Marshall v. Allen —Claim for debt, A 4. Paid into court. Hollis v. Boylan—Claim for 10s. for work done and performed. Settled out of court. William Wells was brought up in custody .charged with stealing a watch, the property of Olivia Silva, cook of the Fawn, schooner. The prosecutor (a foreigner) did not give a very clear statement of the occurrence, and the prisoner having been searched by P.C.

Searles, and no watch found on him, and he also having accounted for sleeping on board the Fawn, he was ordered to be dismissed. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 4. [ Before H. S. Tiffen, & M. Fitzgeeald, Esqs.] G. Forester was fined ss. and costs for drunkenness. Fine paid. John M‘Carthy was fined 10s. and costs for a similar offence. In this case defendant employed Mr. B. Taylor to plead that the constable had an animus against him on account of his having accused him of stealing 10s. from bis pocket when the defendant was locked up on Saturday evening last. The bench did not hold that anything of the kind had actuated the police, but that they had only dode their duty. John Morrell was fined 10s. and costs, 95., for being drunk on the Spit on the Ist inst. He was summoned to appear at the Court on the 3rd, but, failing to do so, a warrant was issued for his apprehension. The prisoner was found very drunk, and conveyed to the lock-up. He was fined 10s., and costs, 55., for this offence also. Wood v. Taylor—Claim for debt, £3 Is. 6tl. Judgment by default for amount and costs, 7s.
