LOCAL INTELLIGENCE.
Napier Races, 1863.—These races, or rather, part of them, came off yesterday. The Produce Stakes was won with ease by Euclid (T. Goldsmith, rider). The Maori race was a sorry affair. We have not been able to procure the name of the Horse that won. The Hawke's Bay Stakes was won by Schamyl with plenty of room to spare. Accident.—An accident,.which may terminate fatally took place yesterday evening. Air. M’Lellau, of this town, by some means or other, tumbled out of Mr. J effaces’ trap, and it was at first supposed that the wheel passed over his head. He has been taken to the Hospital. Resignation.— A vacancy has taken place in the Provincial Council—“ considerations of a private nature ” having induced Mr. James Wood to resign his seat as member for the Town of Napier. It will be seen from our advertising columns that Mr. VJanisch is a candidate for the vacant seat.
