COMMERCIAL NEWS.

LONDON WOOL REPORT.— December, 18G2. The last sales for the year closed on the 12th December, the quantity catalogued comprising 13,717 bales Australian, 17,412 bales Port Philip, 3521 bales Yan Diemen’s Land, 4513 bales Adelaide, 8928 bales New Zealand, 89 bales Swan River, 26,422 bales Cape ; total 74615 bales. The tendency to depression which wo noticed in our last report became more manifest as the sales progressed, the advance established at the opening was lost, and prices may now bo quoted on the average to last sale rates —except for faulty Sydney’s, which have sold rather higher. It cannot bo doubted that the homo buyers have from the first acted with extreme caution, and holding as most did to the opinion that speculators would wish to sell at some time during the sales, may in part account for the want of spirit manifested by all, foreign purchasers excepted who bid spiritedly for. nearly all sorts, particularly the lower descriptions, hence all better qualities did not reach the prices expected, and indeed pro rata, with medium flocks, and did not fetch their relative value. The absence of competition on the part of Bradford spinners was much felt for all good combing flocks, but the heavy stocks held by them from May and August of the best clips offered little inducement for continued operation a, particularly as at the present moment the demand for yarns is chiefly for those from English wool. —Home News, Dec. 29.
