WAIKATO.

[From the Daily Southern Cross, February 5.] We have received a letter from an occasional correspondent, from the Waikato district, from which we learn that “ Mr. Qorsc is starting a newspaper to counteract the Sokioi. Hokioi is a bird; and he calls his the Fetoitoi moke moke —the Lonely Swallow From another correspondent we learn that the industrial school at Otawhao is a failure for so far. There are only about fifteen boys in attendance, of whom six or seven are half-castes. They are well-fed, well-clothed, and taught. There are four tradesmen employed to instruct them ; viz., a tailor, shoemaker, carpenter, and blacksmith. The Government have gone to considerable expense in making improvements and additions, but to no purpose, as the natives do not seem to avail themselves of the benefits of the institution
