LOCAL INTELLIGENCE.
We are sorry to learn that a requisition is about to be made to a person totally unfitted for the office, to come forward as a candidate for the scat vacated by Mr. Colenso. We hope, for the sake of their own reputation, that the reqnisitionists will think better of the matter; and trust that the electors will be on their guard should such a document be presented to them for signature.
Election for Waipukurau.—On Saturday last, the nomination of two persons to serve as members for this district in the Provincial Council resulted in the return of Mr. John Wilkinson. The other candidate, Mr. Sydney Johnstone was also declared duly elected, but it was afterwards discovered that neither’the name of Mr. Johnstone, nor of his seconder Mr. Gaisford, were on the electoral roll, and therefore his election does not hold good. We think it behoves parties taking part in these matters to find out their qualifications for so doing, else they mulct the Province in much additional expense for a new election. ‘
