NELSON.
The Races. —The animal Nelson Races came off on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday the last three days of the year, and if the meeting was not so good as some we have seen, it went off far better t han was expected of it. On Monday, 29th Dec., the Great Nelson 'i rial Stakes was won by Mr. H. IT. Stafford’s Maria, beating St. Lawrence, and Regnum. The Tnrf Club Plato was won by Mr. T. Redwood's Otto, beating Ladybird, and Ultima. The Handicap Plate was walked over for by Mr. Morse’s Certainty. The Handicap Stakes was won by Ladybird, beating Certainty ; Ultimn, Otto, and Waimoa paid forfeit. The Ladies’ Purse was won by Mr. T. Redwood's Otto, beating Ladybird, St. ‘Patrick, and Mayflower. On Tuesday, Dee. TO, the Licensed Victuallers’ J-'reo Handicap was won by Mr. T. Redwood’s Otto, beating Ladybird, Certainty, Ultima, and St, Patrick. The W aimea Stakes was won by Mr. Dale's Zetland, beating Nancy and nine others, some of whom contributed to the sport, although they had little chance of the race. The Maiden Plato was won by Mr. If. Stafford’s St. Lawrence, beating St. Patrick and Certainty. The last day’s sport (Wednesday’s) included the following events : —The Town Plate, won by Mr. Redwood’s Otto ; the Scurry Plate, won by Mr. Stafford’s Maria; the Stock Race, won by Mr. Chrichton’s Nancy ; the Consolation Plate, won by Mr. Redwood s Ladybird ; the forced Handicap, won by Mr. Redwood’s Ladybird. It is the intention of \V. Robinson, Rsq., to pre-amt ns next year with a handsome silver cup of the value of one hundred guineas, to bo then run lor. — ■JZ.ramiiier, January 3.
