Sutton, Esq. Esq., Wellington ; and Esq., Napier. Provisional Secretary :—John Cl. Kinross, Esq. o THE object of the proposed Company is to procure a screw steamer of a capacity and draught of water suited for the requirements of the Port of Napier. The groat success which has attended the working of steamers in the coasting trade of New Zealand lias demonstrated the fact that such a trade can be profitably followed, and it is believed that the Province can now very well maintain a steamer of her own. The want of a suitable local steamer lias been severely felt for the past eighteen months—flockowners and others having been thereby shut out from tbe high markets existing both in Otago and Auckland. The uncertainty of the voyage precludes shipping bv sailing vessels, while the accommodation afforded by the mail steamer, irrespective of the danger and delay of loading in the roadstead, is inadequate. The steamer which this company proposes to purchase shall be one of about 300 tons, with a broad beam and light draught of water, so as to enter the harbour at all states of tbe tide. Her engines’ power to be suilieient to steam head to wind. As the conveyance of stock may be expected to form a very profitable source of revenue, —she will be fitted up with moveable stalls for crttleand sheep. Independent of the outlet which such a vessel would give for fat stock, the growing importance of the Port of Napier requires it for the development of the goods and passenger traffic. This Company may with confidence calculate on receiving the liberal subsidy for steam purposes voted by the Provincial Council of Hawke’s Bay. It is proposed that this company shall have a capital of £IO,OOO in 500 shares of £2O each, with power to issue new shares if necessary. Tbe qualification for voting at the election of the first Board of Directors shall be the payment of the first call of £2 per share. Shareholders shall bo allowed to vote by proxy. Any qualified Shareholder holding 10 Shares in his own right shall bo eligible for election to the Board of Directors.
