The whole force from the heights returned to the Ferry in safety, with the guns from Camp hill, using them on the enemy when they attempted to pursue our retreating men. On Sunday noon the rebels appeared in great force on London Heights. The Federals shelled them from point to point, which they replied to. The cannnonading continued throughout the day, and was resumed on Monday morning, when the white flag was raised. The rebelt continued firing three-quarters of an hour afterwards; 2,300 cavalry escaped on Sunday night, cutting , their way through the enemy, and arrived at Greencastle, Pennsylvania, with little loss. The balance of the troops, numbering from 6,000 to 8,000, with General White’s command, from Martinsburg. all surrendered on Monday afternoon.
