Native Reports. —Hore Patene has returned from his visit to the King. ’ He has brought the following news, which may he taken for what it is worth. If Win. Naylor’s road is carried beyond a certain point near the Waitetuna, the King - natives will resist. If the troops occupy Tataraimaka, 500 Maories will immediately take possession of Waitava. The dispute as to the Waitara cannot be submitted to investigation and arbitration in the absence of Colonel Browne, one of the principal parties concerned. The King considers the Government did wrong in not at once completing the purchase of the Waitotara, and that the delay nullifies the bargain. But he considers the Government entitled to a fair equivalent in land for the ,£SOO paid, and such a slice will be given them. — Chronicle, Dec. 18. WELLINGTON. The Superintendent. —Yesterday his Honor left town for the Wairarapa and East Coast, in connexion with his duties as Land Purchase Commissioner. He hopes to meet Mr. M’Lean, who has promised to visit the East Coast if possible in order to close up many of the completed purchases.—lndependent, Dee. 25. Communication with Napier. —We understand that Mr. K. J. Duncan, in his recent visit to Napier, effected an arrangement with the Provincial Government thereby which a steamer will leave Wellington on the lltli of each month for that place returning from thence on the 18th Under this new arrangement the Storm Bird will leave Wellington for Napier, on 14th January next. — Ibid. Thatcher. —lt appears this modern ballad satirist has left Auckland, and is astonishing the natives, white and brown, of Hawke's Bay. In the Times, December 18th, we notice that he had given his first entertainment there to a crowded house. It is probable that he may shortly favor us with another visit. — Ibid. Thatcher. —This gentleman is now delighting the good people of Napier with his comic sayings, and attracting bumper houses. He may be expected here on the return of the Queen. He pronounces "Wellington to he without exception the dullest towm he has visited in the Colony. —Neiu Zealand Advertiser, Dee. 23.
