AUCKLAND.
We have files from this province hy the Zephyz to the 16th inst., from which we learn that the Sheriff declared the state of the poll taken for the election of Superintendent to he—Graham, IGffo ; Williamson, He therefore declared Robert Graham, Esn., to be duly elected. Mr. W. C. I hildy and Mr. Joseph May have been chosen hy the new Superintendent as members of the Executive. <1 nr. at InnxL Case. —At the sitting of the Supremo Court, on the loth inst., an action fa 1 libel, Busby versus Bell, damages A7.00U. i-ame on fr hearing before His Honor the Chief Justice. The plaintiff’ conducted Ids own case ; Mr. Whitaker appearing for the defendant ; before a special jury. The plaintiff stated that the words used in certain minutes alleged to have been made by the defendant on a memorial addressed hy the plaintiff to the Duke of Newcastle constituted the libel. Sir George Grey, who had been subpoenaed by the plaintiff' to produce certain documents, refused to do so, nniess amused ’ey his ministers. After the examination of Capfuii Campbell, Clerk to the House of Representatives, and Mr. Domett, -relative to the production of documents, the court adjourned till the following morning.
