Military.—There has been no alteration in the disposition of the troops. The detachment of the 12th, head quarters of the 14-th, 65th, and 70th still remain encamped at Otahuhu ; the 40th are in garrison in Auckland ; the head quarters of the 57th at New Plymouth ; and a large detachment of that Regiment at Wanganui, in command of Major Logan. Col. Sir James Alexander returned to England by the last mail having taken leave of his Regiment, by whom he was greatly and deservedly beloved, in a way that will not soon be forgotten by cither officers or soldiers. Sir James, we are told, is to be succodcd in command of the 2nd battalion of the 14th by Lieut. - Colonel Charles Wilson Austen, from the 83rd regiment. Several promotions have lately taken place—Major Nelson, 40th, and Major Hutchins, Ist battalion 12th, to be Lient-.-Colonels ; Captain Miller, Ist battalion 12th, Captain Bowdler, 40th, Captains Paid and Turner, 65th, Captain Strover, Royal Artillery., and Captain Mould, Royal Engineers, to be Majors. We should have been glad to have been seen the name of Captain McGregor of the 65th included in this list of promotions: indeed, it seems strange, considering his .services, how this gallant and deserving officer has been overlooked. The Companionship of the Bath has been awarded to Colonel T. R. Mould, Royal Engineers; Colonel A. E. W. Wyatt, 65th; Lieut.-Colonel A. Leslie, 40th ; and Lieut.-Colo-nel Carey, half pay 50th Regiment, Deputy Ad-jutant-General to the Forces in Australis. —New Zealander, Sept. 1.
