DUNEDIN LIVE STOCK MARKET.
Driver, Maclean, & Co.—ReportAlthough the yards have been fairly supplied with cattle the past week, all that came to hand were taken by the trade at a slight advance on our last quotations. The market is still bare of good mutton, and we fear the supply will continue short until after shearing—there are but few lots of fat sheep in the Province, and holders do not seem inclined to sell at present. Pat Cattle. —Wo have sold all that were offered, at say for— Best Bullocks £2l to £3O Second do. 20 „ 25 Inferior do. 15 „ 18 Best Cows 20 „ 21 Second do. 10 „ 18 Inferior do. 12 „ 14 We sold a lot of 60 head, 1-3 cows, 2-3 bullocks at above rates. Fat Calves.—Scarce, and very saleable, at £1 to £8 each. Stoke Cattle.— Owing to the present high price in the north, and the reported discovery of new gold-fields—holders of cattle are asking an advance on our last quotations—say, for quiet well bred cattle, aged—£ll 10s. to £l2 10s/ Second quality—£lU 10s. to £ll. We have sold 500 head, very superior cattle, at £l2 10s. per head. Daiet Cows and Working Bullocks.— Are much enquired for and scarce—say, for quiet cows, (with calf at foot or springing) £ls to £25. Well
bred bullocks, in good condition—£lo to £OO per pair. Fat Sheep. —Are very scarce at 355. to 3os. for best quality. Second do. 325. to 3-ls. Stoke Sxieep. —Are in demand, particularly young acclimatised breeding ewes—ewes deliverable before shearing, 355., wethers do. 275. Cd. to 30s. Station Pkopektv. —We have many enquiries for good rams, with but few olforing tor sale. Houses. —Although the market is still bare of good stock, we have to note a considerable advance in price of rough heavy hacks, for packing to the diggings. The demand for anything that is at all useful, is daily increasing ; and should the excitement last a week longer, there will be but few available horses left in the market. Our sales oi to-day arc at least t>o per cent, in advance of prices last week.
