An Irishman engaged in fighting a duel, insisted, as he was near-sighted, that iio should stand six feet nearer to his antagonist, than his antagonist, did to him. Sheridan used to tell a story of a fat man who was going to tight a thin one, and it 'was maintained that (he figure of the latter ought to be chalked upon the portly person of the former ; and if the bullit hit him outside the line, it ought to go for nothing.
